Windows Server 2016 Standard is the eighth version of the Windows Server server operating system developed by Microsoft as part of the Windows NT family of operating systems. It builds on Windows Server 2012 R2 and was released on October 12, 2016. The next generation of the server operating system is Windows Server 2019.
Among the new features and improvements with which it rewards its predecessor are a host of new virtualization features, including Storage Spaces Direct for configuring scalable storage schemes without dedicated hardware. Hyper-V has greater performance and scalability, and with a new feature, administrators can use virtual machine network controllers and manage virtual networks with Software Defined Networking.
For the convenience of system administrators, server management has been improved, and multiple servers and services can be managed from one place. This version also contains a new server monitoring feature - Server Management Tools.
